Energy is a Currency

Be intentional about how you invest it

Ebbs and Flows

If you’ve read my work, then you may have picked up on my love for etymology and my drive to innerstand the origins of words.

The word ”Energy” has been used in a variety of ways in the 21st century. So naturally, my desire to find a definition I could resonate with pushed me to dive deeper into its intial meaning.

Where did the Greek meaning come from?

I looked at the chart and my eyes instantly locked onto the two Greek origins.

[en- ‘in, within’ and ergon ‘work’.]

Immediately my eyebrows perked up. The phrases intrigued me, but it was still too broad for any concrete takeaways so I read a little bit more on the webpage.

”…mid 16th century (denoting force or vigor of expression)”.

Eureka. Kinda.

I looked at the words and for whatever reason, the word force jumped off the screen and kicked me in my iris.

I was compelled to look up the etymology of force and felt myself start to slip down a rabbit hole that could keep me up throughout the night…

Why am I’m getting hungry?

At this stage, I swore to myself I would not look up the etymology of strong (Old English, Germanic, Dutch and German… don’t judge) and instead focus on how to tie it into the word energy – so I could get closer to the closure I was looking for at 4:40 AM.

Here’s where my mind went.

I thought to myself, “what’s the strongest thing in the world today”?

Words like love, family, water, joy, pride, supernovas, all came to mind.

But the first word that popped up?

Money.

Stay with me, we’ll get back to Energy soon.

If I had a little money…

This is where I barely save this article from losing the plot.

When I think of the world that the majority of the people on Earth live in, it is primarily dominated by money.

Their affordances, their mobility, their freedom, their time, it all literally has a price on it.

In the areas where the “money” may be vastly different than the rest of the world, there still exists a currency.

Something that flows between the denizens of the land and allows them to exchange commerce and value with one another.

And that’s how I see Energy.

Energy is like a currency - it is something that we all possess and can use to our advantage if we are intentional about how we spend and invest it.

Being mindful of how our energy is spent is a smart investment for the future.

By being aware of the current flow of energy in your life, you can channel it in a way that will bring you success.

Investing in yourself and others is an important part of this process, as it helps to create a positive cycle of energy exchange. With intentionality and awareness, you can use your energy to create a better future for yourself and those around you.

The way we spend and invest our energy is like the way we spend and invest our money. It helps to be intentional about it, considering both the immediate needs and the long-term goals.

We must remember that the energy we use today will create our current tomorrow.

The energy of the mind is the essence of life.

-Aristotle

Right.

So I realize up until this point I may not have shared any tangible takeaways on energy that my readers can use for themselves. But maybe that speaks to the nature of what energy is.

Energy is like our fingerprints, unique to our genetic code.

It’s why there is always an exchange that happens energetically when you interact with another person.

To take it a step further, there’s also an exchange that happens when you interact with plants, animals, or even technology.

In order to define energy and what it means in your life, you have to become aware of the fact that you are a conduit.

Energy can flow into you, and out of you, from anything, anywhere at any time.

I believe full mastery of self allows us to control what energy flows into us, and where we allow our energy to flow out of us too. But that probably takes years of self-reflection and mediation to accomplish.

Unless you're the Last Airbender or something.

So don’t stress about it today.

Just try and focus on the flow of the current in your life.

You never know what investments can change your life in the future.
